Top 10 Albums Of 2011

By Paul Gibson | January 2nd, 2012

Abandon Kansas - Ad Astra Per Aspera

The latest release from Abandon Kansas comes off as more mature, a bit darker and yet danceable.

Playdough - Hotdoggin

This Dallas, TX MC created a great hip-hop album. Some of the material is a bit edgy but no one can say it isn’t street. “Cadillac” is a fantastic track. Beep Beep.

Blindside – With Shivering Hearts We Wait

After a much too long hiatus the Swedish boys return with an album that stretches the bounds of anything they have done before. “Our Love Saves” us proved to be a anthem for 2011 and a song I couldn’t get out of my head if I wanted to.

Icon For Hire – Scripted

I didn’t know what to expect after the first single from this album but this debut has some unbeatable chops. One of those few albums where I love every song and their live set is rockin’ as well.

Braille – Native Lungs

I love this guy. He creates hip hop in a way that is truly out of the box every time. Check it.

Switchfoot – Vice Verses

While this album isn’t as aggressive as I might like, there is no doubting that this is one of their best. From their huge hit “Dark Horses” to stripped down title track it is a masterpiece.

Peter Furler – On Fire

It’s good to hear the voice that made the Newsboys huge. With the the return of writing partner Steve Taylor as well as Taylor’s guest vocal on “Closer” this album brings all the tried and true pop rock goodness.

Family Force 5 – III

This is not the album that most fans expected, but after a few spins these songs are really infectious. They also translate really well live.

The Violet Burning – The Story Of Our Lives

Easily the biggest feat of 2011 and a huge triumph for Michael Pritzel  & company. A 3 album concept record with limited edition packaging. Fantastic goth/gunge/rock/experimental awesomeness. Huge success in my book.

I Am Empire – Kings

This is a great album, heavy alternative rock to metal this album delivers. “Brain Damage,” “The Elevator,” “Saints And Sinners” all awesome.
