Fans who know of Queens Club because of their connection to chaotic metal band The Chariot should leave behind any preconceived notions about their sound, good or bad. Queens Club does feature 2 former members of The Chariot, Jake Ryan, drums, and Dan Eaton, guitar/vocals, but the two bands couldn’t be more different.
QC takes it’s musical queues from bands like Bloc Party, Franz Fernandez and The Killers, but without sounding unoriginal. Overall the end result sounds like Robert Chisolm from Jonezetta singing lead for Abandon Kansas at a great dance party.
Some of the standout tracks include their first single to the Christian market, “Dust,” which supposedly started out sounding like the intro song for the Chicago Bulls, according to Jake Ryan. The final version sounds nothing like a jock jam wannabe, but has a cool vibe, not often heard from the Christian market.
The mainstream radio single, “Less Talk,” is a solid dance-rock tune and could do well on alternative and college radio alike, if given a chance.
I also really like “Nightmarer”, which also appeared on their ep. It’s got a nice mix of both the indie and dance-rock side of the band, and gosh darn it, its catchy.
“I’m American,” is the lone aggressor on the album. Not that all the rest of the album is laid back, but this one has more attitude than the rest for sure. It makes me feel like I discovered a lost track from Bleach-era Nirvana.
If you like indie rock, dance rock or just good music you should really be picking up this album.
