My car has been saturated with tunes from Me in Motion. Their debut full length album has provided the soundtrack of my life for the past week. When reviewing new music, I like to live with it and discover the quality of companionship it provides. This recording has the refreshing energy of a new friend; one who reminds you of older friends – Green Day, All Star United, Rock-n-Roll Worship Circus, early Switchfoot.
The flow of thought is clear. Think. Think differently. Move. Change. Worship. Think again.
These thoughts set to driving riffs made for some fun rides. The conversations were straightforward. Nothing too poetic. The faith stance was strong and unapologetic. Perhaps a little innocent for believers who have faced serious questions, but honest and humble. There is nothing here to insult your intelligence… or challenge it. These are lyrics for rethinking priorities and reaffirming commitments.
Musically, the production is good, the vocals are strong and mix of songs well chosen. There are no groundbreaking innovations here, just good solid stuff. If you enjoy punk/pop with hopeful and challenging lyrics, this is it.
… we’ve landed in a place that’s a lot more straight up rock n’ roll than we would have done before. But that’s because we’ve discovered it’s what we love to play live and we’ve embraced the ‘less is more’ philosophy in a musical sense, just stripping it back and rocking out.
