Before listening to this ep, I was not familiar with Applejaxx. But having worked at a rhythmic leaning pop station for almost half of my radio career I know what I like in rap.

Applejaxx has style, his music sounds mainstream, the beats are good and the flows are smooth, think E-40 but more laid back. Some of the lyrics suffer from the longest-running affliction in spirit-filled rhymes, they’re a little cheesy. Don’t get me wrong I still enjoy it. But as can be the case it is hard to rap about getting a “Jesus high” and sound serious.

But this ep still has great trunk-bangin’ cred in my book.

The second track, “Future,” has a Yin Yang Twins flavor to the beat that I really dig.

The title track has a feel to it and is also top notch on the production and execution. It as well as several other tracks have a female vocalist on the chorus that really amps up the song.

“App For That” has a cool feel as well, paralleling a life with Jesus to having a smart phone with apps. Pretty cool concept and let’s face it “Gods got an app for that.”

“Fear Factor” stands apart for the cool Dr. Dre ish production and the sung vocals on the chorus make me think back to “Regulars” by Warren G. and Natt Dog.

Applejaxx has a quality ep here that is well worth your time, especially if you already are into Christian rap.
